My Dear Betty [Healy Murray],
Sorry so long in reply to yours of May 10th., when I got your letter, I was in the Glendale Sanitarium - was in there for three weeks - had a bad attack of high blood pressure with slight stroke on my left side. Have been home for a couple of weeks now & pleased to tell you I am up & able to get around again. I was certainly lucky, could have been very serious for me, anyway, the Dr. says I should be back to normal in a couple of months. This of course has delayed the Roach deal, altho' they know nothing of my illness, I do'nt want to make any commitment until I am in condition to go ahead with it. I am feeling OK, but still very weak & have to get my strength back.
Was sorry to note you had'nt been feeing too good, I guess the trouble with your teeth had a lot to do with it, that can upset your whole system, especially with the extractions not having been too good with broken parts left in your gums - hope by now you have got those out & feeling much better again.
Can imagine how anxious you are to get started in Las Vegas & kinda get back in harness again, the change will do you a lot of good after that "Early To Bed Early To Rise Makes A Man A Farmer" business! Do'nt blame you not being interested in the Radio deal, a lot of responsibility & hard work for what?
Not much more to tell you BETTY, so will close. Lots of good luck, success & happiness to Wayne & self in your new venture, hope things will turn out wonderful for you - you deserve it. Let me know when you get settled down, will look forward to hearing all the news.
Bye & God Bless,
As ever:-

My Dear Betty [Healy Murray],
Thanks for your nice long letter. Pleased to tell you I am coming along fine & feeling good - got rid of the crutches a couple of weeks ago & just about ready now to discard the walking stick, the exercises I have been taking (indoor bicycle etc.; have certainly done the trick.
Glad to hear you had a checkup & found out the cause of your not feeling good, hope by now the diet business is showing results & will soon be in shape again.
The enclosed clipping re Tony Conero seems to explain the reason you had’nt heard from him (it was in this morning’s "REPORTER") too bad this had to happen as I know how much you had looked forward to getting started with him altho' he might be able to get around the situation in some way & you would still have the opportunity to work for him indirectly. An wondering if you made the trip up there with your Friend as you anticipated?. I got a big kick re your description of him, the beautiful car & gorgeous clothes & Wayne having to buy the gas - where on earth do you find 'em Betty!
Did you see the enclosed news clipping about Jan Rubini? is this the Girl that went to Australia with him? Yes, Peggy Bostock must be having a wonderful trip - I too wonder what happened to Claude.
I am going to La Jolla on Friday for a week or ten days, the Dr. thinks the change would do me a lot of good in the sun & sea air, so will drop you a line on my return.
All for now Betty, give my best to Wayne & take care of yourself.
As ever:-
