On June 8, 1961, after visiting Stan for the first time, Thomas Sefton wrote to him saying, “You and Mrs. Laurel were so kind to receive us as graciously as you did and I want you to know how much we enjoyed our visit with you both. Ben [Chadwell] and I have written to Black Hawk Films in Davenport, Iowa and to Professor McCabe as you suggested. Our children were simply delighted with the Bohemian Girl 8x10’s and clapped with joy when I mentioned that we might have some Laurel and Hardy films of our very own. My very best wishes always to you and Mrs. Laurel.”

There is no improvement in my vision. Doctor says it may get a little better in time but will never fully recover.

Dear Bob & Marie [Hatfield]:
Thanks for the nice B'Day greeting card - appreciate the kind remembrance.
Note you're having a heat wave, its pretty rough down this way too, altho' Santa Monica is the coolest spot. The hotel management were kind enough to have the windows cleaned last week, so I discovered my eye was OK - I can see swell now.!! kidding aside there is no improvement in my vision, Dr. says it may get a little better in time but will never fully recover. Anyway am not too distressed about it, as long as I'm not suffering any pain or great discomfort.
Eda joins in all the best to yourselves & Mother.
Wish you all lots of happy Barbeque's.
That's real good DIET.!!!
Cheerio:

JUNE 26th.'61.
Dear Isabel [Blackburn]:
Sorry long delay in acknowledging your very nice letter, 1st.inst. Since seeing you, I had a hemorrhage in my left eye, Dr. advised me to avoid reading & writing as much as possible, so of course have'nt been able to attend to my correspondence - I answer a few occasionally but they are generally brief - so know you will fully understand the situation.
Pleased to know you read the L&H book & found it interesting.
We here too enjoyed so much the pleasure of meeting you, a very enjoyable evening. I see Babe London once in a while, Irene visited us once since you were here.
Must close now. Eda joins in kindest regards & every good wish, trust alls well & happy with you.
Cheerio & God Bless.
Sincerely always:
STAN LAUREL.

Dear Edward Laker:
Thanks yours, 25th.inst.
Regarding the L&H book - this was completed last year & was published by Doubleday Co in March of this year, titled "MR LAUREL & MR HARDY", written by Prof. John McCabe of the New York University.
I understand it is being now distributed in Eng. by the Museum Press (or Publishing Co.) in London. I believe this can be obtained at Foyle's books (Charing Cross Rd.)
Again my thanks for your kindly interest & sentiments.
My kindest regards & every good wish to you & yours,
Sincerely always:
STAN LAUREL.

Dear Graham Dale:
Thanks yours,25th.inst.
Interesting to hear about your art media - portraits on eggs & to know L&H are included in your collection.
Regarding an egg recipe for your book - frankly my knowledge of food preparation is very elementary, but I have thought of trying to prepare "SCRAMBLED RAW EGGS", a simple & speedy method would be to throw four fresh eggs into an ELECTRIC FAN.! (from then on the chef would use his own jodgement.)
Wish you lots of success with your book.
Sincerely always:
STAN LAUREL.
